    About Custard & Plums

This cartoon-style front cover would have been enjoyed by the song's singer, 1930's radio comedian Billy Danvers. His red nose and improbable hats were slightly lost on radio, but his vaudeville sense of timing was not, appealing to the new wireless audiences. To honor his father James, a touring actor with the famous D'Oyly Carte Opera Company, Billy named his only son 'Mikado', probably for a laugh!
