Nympheas, c.1914-17

A pioneer of French Impressionism, for Claude Monet (1840-1926) the importance of observing natural light led him to paint outside 'en plein air'. Over time he would repeatedly return to the same scene, capturing changes in colour and light, most famously in paintings of his beautiful garden and pond at Giverny. King and McGaw's Monet collection includes images from The National Gallery and The Courtauld Gallery.
