London Markets. This is the theme selected for the serving area of the restaurant. Click here  to see the initial images proposed for the 3 or 4 large canvases required in this area. These images have been partially manipulated and "brightened" from the original photographs. They can be toned down accordingly and "details" can be taken from them to create more abtract feeling images. We are displaying a relatively large number of images relative to the number needed as we are trying to ensure that the style and feel of the work meets the broader requirements of the rest of the ground floor assignment.

Brighton and Cambridge. Click here to see some initial shots of Brighton and click here to see the initial shots of Cambridge. Brighton fits the "play" better than the "work" part of the Britain at Work and Play brief. Cambridge can be used for either part, but on balance is more "work". We would probably only end up with one or two images from each town but present these partially worked ideas for critical comment before embarking upon the full photography commission.

The First floor art scheme is based the photograph theme Work and Play in London. Using "artilised" photography enlarged to the impressive scale required for the project we explore life in London and the interplay of work and leisure to bring out the vibrancy and diversity of the city.

The individual images are taken from striking photographic images, mainly commissioned specifically for this project. The images are then manipulated to add vibrancy and generate the consistency of tone and colour required in these architecturally uniform spaces. The end result is a balanced depiction of London from the viewpoints of both residents and visitors.

The third floor art scheme is based on an abstract concept working with colours and shapes. The shapes and colours are gradually but completely transformed as you progress around the building, eventually reverting naturally to the original wave.

The images are taken from natural forms and developed into a coherent scheme of pattern and colour which works around the building. There is a gradual transition of colours and form - starting with a gentle curve before moving into a bigger curve that changes colours blue, red, blue, red, as it hits the North West corner. The curve then straightens out and transforms into a boxish shape. It then turns into a horizontal, vertical, horizontal and ends with a slight horizontal curve similar to the one at the start. It is not possible to give a complete picture of how the finished work will look in-situ but the pages below give an idea of how parts of the transition may look.

The actual prints will not appear as "garish" in real life as they may appear on the screen!
