Gasser, Henry (1909-81)
Henry Gasser was born in Newark, New Jersey. He began his education in art at the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art, of which he became director in 1946. Gasser has had an exceptionally successful career and has exhibited in the United States and abroad. He has received many prizes, awards, and medals from distinguished art societies and has works in more than twenty-eight museum collections, among them the Philadelphia, Boston, and Newark Museums. He is the author of several books on technical aspects of painting. Adept with oil and watercolour painting, Gasser portrays American coastal life realistically, using harmonious colour, solid composition, and expert line. |
