Rodin, August (1840-1917),
Is the best-known sculptor of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. He trained as a stonemason, but also studied the masters of the past such as Michelangelo. He achieved considerable success in his lifetime despite having his public works altered, attacked with an axe, refused display and destroyed in a Chilean revolution. A marvellous conveyance of movement, proportion and anatomy characterise his work. |
