| Carl Frederic Aagaard (1833-1895)
Carl Frederic Aagaard was born in Odense, Denmark and studied art with his brother, who was later to become a renowned glass engraver. After completing his studies Aargaard collaborated with a decorative painter called Hilker on a number of public monuments.
When Aargaard's paintings became well known in Denmark he was commissioned to paint the chapel of King Christian IV. Around the same time he worked with the landscape painter, Peter-Kristian Skoovgaard, who encouraged him to work with oils on canvas. He exhibited his first work in 1857.
Aagaard undertook extensive travels including visits to Switzerland and Germany in 1869. He is respected as one of Denmark's greatest painters. |
